It was not until the 1970s that a few Yezidi intellectuals began to commit these texts to writing. These first publications included only specimens of the most prestigious genres, which for a time were thought to be representative of Yezidi religious literature as a whole. It was later discovered, however, that this literature was far richer. Furthermore it became clear that an understanding of Yezidi oral culture as a whole was indispensable for a proper understanding of the religious texts.The present work offers the reader a representative selection of the main genres of Yezidi religious texts, with translation and commentary. The texts are intended, moreover, to cover the topics most often addressed in the Yezidi religious tradition.The first introductory chapter aims to introduce the reader to the Yezidi community's history, aspects of its religion, and its social structures and institutions. The next chapter focuses on some of the implications of the oral transmission of this literature and on its contents, especially the sacred history of Yezidism. The third chapter discusses aspects of orality and the transition to written culture, questions of performance and reception, and the formal characteristics of the various types of texts.

It was perfect for me: a seasoned undergraduate who needed a refresher on atomic orbitals, lewis structures, MO theory and the like. The book is very well written; not a word is wasted. The explanations are clear, concise and engaging. It may be in black and white but the diagrams and illustrations are also extremely helpful. This primer was a great reference for me throughout the semester. It's accessible enough for anyone but as the title of my review suggests, I think it works best for someone who is rusty on General Cehmistry and needs a high quality, low-price, easy-to-carry review tool, and this book fits that perfectly. Highly reccomended!

Very good introduction book on chemical bonding

This book is very well written. It clearly described chemical bonding in quantum mechanics perspective. I am doing EELS to study chemical bonds in some materials and the book helped a lot.

An exellent, brief introduction to the issues of the singularity and AI more generally

This is an excellent, brief book. Unlike many books in this field, it gets right to the point as well as filling the newbie in on vital aspects of applicable technologies. The book is somewhat philosophical but looks at the whole space of AI up to and including the singularity. It does not take a strong stance on what is possible technologically but explores what the implications are if it turns out to be the case that AI is possible.
