A Different and Interesting Selection

If you love fairy tales and are looking for a different selection from the ordinary, this book should should please. It contains 15 tales from Russia, England, Flanders, Belgium, Italy, France, Ireland, Serbia, Japan and China. While some have appeared in other forms I found it an intriguing and original selection that was very well told. Alas, there are no Dulac illustrations. Even in miniature black and white that would have been a bonus.

There are no illustrations in this digital book only bookmarks where an illustration should have been. Also the publisher, Library of Alexandria, states in the description that there is an interactive table of contents and this is not true. I was disappointed in this purchase. Gave it 3 stars for the stories though I have not read them yet.

Great writer. Easy to read

Great writer. Easy to read. Though only minimal violence, I could do without the explicit scene of the family killing. In all I look forward to more of Mr Archer's books because they are done with respect to the readers of all ages. Your first, second, and third books were also up their in the 5 category. God bless you Mr Archer.

I just started to read the Sam Pritchard series and I really enjoy them. They are good reads, The writer keeps you wanting more, Never gives the story away . You end up not wanting to put it down, You can visualize the story and at the end of the book,He alwasy leaves you wanting more. The music is BONUS, PLEASE keep the stories coming,! Thanks a nw fan of this Author.

Sam & Indie are back to solve more mysteries

This is the 4th book in the Sam Prichard series by David Archer. I am thoroughly enjoying this series. This is one of the best "private investigator" mystery series available on Amazon, in my opinion.

If you have been reading the series, you know that Sam & Indie did get married in Book 3 ("Love and War"). After the reception, they boarded the plane for their honeymoon destination in Honolulu, Hawaii. Daughter, Kenzie, and her kitty, Samson, went to stay with her grandmothers, Grace (Sam's mother) & Kim (Indie's mother).

The honeymoon was cut short because there were suitcase nuclear bombs located in 12 cities. The bombs were found, disabled and the bad guys were taken care of. The good guys won and saved the country but not without suffering losses (for example: Dan Jacobs, Sam's friend & old police partner).

Sam & Indie are back from their "new" honeymoon (courtesy of Harry at Homeland Security) and it's time to take care of family things like registering Kenzie for preschool (which Kenzie is looking forward to), grocery shopping, etc. Sam needs to go practice with his band "Step Back Once" (read Book 2, "Death Sung Softly", to find out how Sam became the front man for the band).

It's also time to catch up on business -- there have been several calls while they were away. Sam starts listening to messages and making notes. After hearing all of the messages, Sam starts calling people to set up interviews. "He didn't do wife or husband trailing, just as a matter of principle" — He finds several cases that look interesting and profitable, so he starts setting up appointments to see some prospective clients.

This book has new mysteries to be solved, with plenty of twists and turns to keep the viewer interested. I read a review somewhere that called a book "un-put-down-able", that's definitely true of the books in this series -- once I start a new book, I'm hooked until the very end. I'm interested in all of the characters: Sam, Indie, Kenzie, Samson, Grace, Kim & Beauregard and can't wait to see what happens next. The ending to this book was AWESOME and totally unexpected!

"FRAMED" has more of David Archer's music that is performed by Sam and his band, Step Back Once (the music is very good!).

Actionable, entertaining, and easy to read

SEO Like I'm 5 is actionable, entertaining, and easy to read. SEO may seem like a very complex and difficult to understand topic, but Matthew does a great job of distilling it down in easy to understand language and format. Not only was it actionable and easy to understand, it is also quite entertaining and inspiring. In the year 2014 if you are not developing your online presence with content and search marketing, you may be completely missing the boat. The author is clearly an expert on the topic, so I highly recommend this book!

Capala should have read a book about how to publish a book.

OK - I'm a grumpy OLD guy. Haven't yet formed an opinion about the usefulness of the content, but a few early observations. Whoever printed the book chopped the last sentence or two off of many pages. Really? The illustrations (screen prints) are too small to be readable. Useless. There are constant, and I mean CONSTANT invitations to Tweet praise for some statement or the other. Hallelujah, brother! Very distracting.

I will write more once I finish reading and have a chance to try to put the content to use.

Finished it last night. This book seems to be directed to others of the same ilk as the author. If you are a self help author or aspiring writer, etc, there may well be useful content here. In other words, if you believe you can create on-going content that others will want to follow, there are hints and tools to use. If, on the other hand, your business is more static, or your clients are companies that are easily 1000 times your size(as mine are, hence unlikely to link to my site), there aint much here. I've gotta say, reading this book reminded me of watching a bunch of teenage girls hanging out together. They twitter and giggle and have their own vernacular and inside jokes and don't understand that there is a world outside of their own.

Again, I'm a old guy. Maybe I just don't get it.

One of her Best

I have read every fiction book written by Ms. Cleage and this is one of her best. The setting is the same as in many of her books and so are the characters. The story takes place in Atlanta and the story never once lost my attention. What I found to be so unique is the fact that the main character is not a good guy. I kept waiting for him to "get it" and wanting him to "get it" but I'll say no more since you'll have to read the book to find out if he did.

Pearl, Thank you for bringing Blue Hamilton back to your readers who craved more of this fine chocolate man with the ocean in his eyes and the smooth velvet in his voice. You have not only given us a West End neighborhood where women and children are safe, but a hero whose life's mission is to keep it that way. We can not question Blue's loyalties, though we must question those of some of your other colorful characters. This vibrant novel is your best since 'What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day!'

King's epical Dark Tower hastens to a close, and its penultimate volume is one of the speediest. The gunslingers of Mid-World and other alternate Earths have defeated The Wolves of the Calla (2003) but lost one of their number. Susannah Dean, nee Odetta Holmes, lacking her lower legs after a minion of the Satan of Mid-World, the Crimson King, pushed her in front of a subway train, and whose personality is sometimes split between black bourgeoise Odetta and viciously paranoiac Detta Walker, has been taken over by the spirit Mia to be the body in which Mia will gestate a boy who will eventually kill head gunslinger Roland. The child is to be born in New York in 1999, which is where Susannah-Mia repairs through one of the doors between worlds. The other gunslingers pursue through the same door, but only 11-year-old Jake Chambers, accompanied by former 'Salems' Lot priest Don Callahan, get to New York. Roland and Susannah's husband, Eddie Dean, tumble into an ambush in New England in 1977. Each chapter--called a stanza and ending with two songlike quatrains--advances one subset of gunslingers' progress. King keeps us on tenterhooks throughout--and leaves us there. Before quite departing, he tacks on a clever coda about the gradual creation of the Dark Tower--but in which world? The series concludes with The Dark Tower in September. Ray Olson

but not Susannah

Susannah has yet another 'sister',Miami, which means 'mother'. it is she who carries the unknown child. Susannah and even Detta fight Mia for possession of their body. they have fled through the door with the Black rainbow back into New York and Roland and Eddie plan to follow. but it is Jake, Perez Callahan and Oy who get pulled by ka. Eddie and Roland are sent to protect Mr. Tower and the Rose. and the story.

the Tower and the Rose hinge on what happens here. who lives, who lives, who listens, who can plan ahead. who can out think evil

In Deference to the Writer

Given the rather venomous reaction criticism of the rather un-poetic nature of this particular book have received from certain members among us of the writing community, I'll try to avoid making any such comparisons. Frankly, I'm not sure why you'd want to read anything that sounds like Stephen King writing poetry--the two that he has published were absolutely terrible, and a testament to the fact that he should never write anything other than prose.

That said, you'll notice, if you're a dedicated reader of the series, that this book is very similar to the fifth and not so much to any of the other books in the series. This is new for this particular series of books, primarily because these last three were released in the course of a year and a half and the previous four took over twenty. Let's take a look at the good and the bad, shall we?

I'll start with the bad, because I'm better at that. For one thing, I think that this book (in light of the events of Wolves of the Calla and The Dark Tower) is terribly patched together. And I mean that literally. It comes up to only a little over four hundred pages, and there's a couple of hundred that could easily have been lifted out of the next book in the series and dropped in here without so much as a ripple. On the whole, I think that would have been better for everybody, and it kind of bothers me the way that this particular book seems to rush along when compared to its neighboring titles. It also does a lot of introducing of plot elements that it makes absolutely no attempt to resolve, which is just lazy writing and what some would call a shameless argument to get people to buy the final book.

The writing itself is pretty much as it was in the fifth story, which is to say that it's much like Stephen King's usual storytelling voice, only with a little bit of manufactured dialectic thrown in for good measure. It lags in places and trips along quickly in others, but on the whole the story is still not as fast paced as, say, The Waste Lands--after four hundred pages, there's still only perhaps one or two action scenes of any note or moment. Most of the story is again spent in conversation and internal monologue, which is fine by me, but if readers are expecting a return to the past for the series, they had best think again.

Extended character development is mostly not a factor in this book, but that's probably more due to the fact that these characters should already be familiar to readers than anything else. The characters, at this point, are what they are, although I will admit that there was an apparent glaring flaw in Eddie's conduct halfway through the book (where his primary concern suddenly does a complete 180) that I don't think is explained anywhere near adequately. I'll also say right now that I hate it when authors try to write books that know they're books. You'll know what I'm talking about when I read the series, but ever since Illuminatus! it's been nothing more than gimmicky noise to me (as it was then). I don't have much taste for it, but I believe most readers will find it a novel concept.

As a Dark Tower book, I'd put this one near the bottom, if only because so little of any import actually HAPPENS in this volume. As a book in general, I'd say it's about what you'd expect from a Stephen King book. The writing will keep your attention and keep you turning the pages, the plot will be interesting enough to keep you involved but nothing that will leave you gaping in amazement, and the language and character backstory will again be some of the best elements.

For Dark Tower fans, it goes without saying that this book goes in their collections. For others, I'd recommend that you try out the first two or three books and then make your decisions--by the time you get to here, you'll either be sold on the series or you won't.

One of the best series I have read. To be honest I always prejudged Stephen King and didn't read any of his books. The man has a gift and an amazing ability to build characters and a world, I do recommend this series, not only in this review, but on a daily basis to my friends!! Thanks Mr. King for writing an amazing story!

Comprehensive and readable

I got this book to help me understand nutrition in a range of birds (wild and captive) and was not disappointed. It starts with general chapters about the avian digestive system and aspects of their diet and mode of eating then goes on to specific chapters about amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, energy, minerals and vitamins. The latter chapters all have special sections devoted to requirements for breeding females as opposed to basal nutritional requirements for maintenance.

I had perused similar books but found them to be almost exclusively concerned with domesticated poultry (understandably, as that is where most of the experimental data comes from). This book also relies quite heavily on such data but in addition contains a lot about dietary requirements and consumption of cagebirds (parrots, finches) and also several wild species (e.g hummingbirds!). I especially liked the sections on deficiency symptoms which will be very relevant for vets, zookeepers and those who keep their own birds, and another aspect I found very useful was how much of each dietary component (e.g. calcium, copper, fat, energy) was found in various food stuffs (e.g. different types of seeds etc).

This book is a veritable gold mine of information and is a great resource to have on your shelves whether you are a vet, pet-owner, poultry farmer or researcher. The author is clearly very knowledgeable and writes well and talks about issues related to diet such as plumage pigmentation etc. There is a bit of chemistry in the book, which is unavoidable but I found it to all well-explained amd accessible. I came across many interesting tid-bits of information while reading it that made me rethink my impressions of birds and the nutritional challenges they face. For example, contrary to popular belief, bird skeletons do not make up a smaller proportion of their body mass than mammals - in fact, there is no difference (pg 240)!

All in all it's a fascinating book and one that I heartily recommend. The down side is that it is not cheap. However, it is so packed with information about a variety of topics pertaining to avian nutrition that it still represents value for money. Get it if you can!

Well Worth The Price!

It doesn't matter whether you are interested in the feeding habits and needs of parrots or partridges, this book has it all and in an easily comprehensible format. Plenty of tables and charts to help you understand the latest information from someone who really knows their stuff. I couldn't put it down!
