MUST READ!!! Hot and steamy M/M romance read!!

OMG this book was amazing!! I particularly loved this book way better than the first book in the series, Collide. The characters definitely had a stronger connection and Blow was so much more steamier with hotter scenes. I am a huge fan of M/M romance and this book did not disappoint and I just may have found myself a new favorite author.

The second book in the Hard Hit series, Blow, follows Ryker and Grady. Grady is a straight man who suddenly finds himself in a situation where he wants to protect and care for another man. He can't get his mind off Ryker, which confuses him because he believes himself to be all the way into only women. When Ryker is having problems with his ex boyfriend, who starts rabidly stalking him, Grady, being the cop that he is, is there for him. Grady doesn't quite understand it, but ever since he met Ryker, they have had an instant attraction to one another.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series, Thrash, because I am super curious about Henley after reading the first two books. I also can't wait to read more of this authors work!

It keeps getting hotter!

I recently read the first book in this series, Collide, and it was the first time I really gave M/M romance a chance. I've since checked out a few others in the genre, and I can say, the genre it's bad, but it's not really my thing. However, there's something about Parkerson's books that are the exception. The chemistry between the characters is off the charts and the scene that are hot are hot, even to a gal like me who normally isn't aroused by the idea of M/M (only because I'm not a guy myself, so it's harder to put myself in their shoes since I would never be apart of any of these equations lol). I really love the dynamic between these characters as well as the suspenseful plot. It's inspiring how instincts can take over and how love can be more about the human than the gender. This definitely falls into the "Accidental Romance" category that I love so much! I will definitely be continuing this series!

Ryker and Grady

What an enjoyable gay for you book. I really loved both Ryker and Grady. They just seemed like they were made for each other. They completed each other. Toxic people in Ryker's past and present helped destroyed the way he saw himself. Grady helped Ryker see that he was just as beautiful on the inside as he was on the outside. Ryker helped Grady just let go.

Sprinkle in Ryker's crazy ex boyfriend and Grady's interesting relationship with his best friend. You've got yourself a book filled with drama, romance, craziness, sappy moments, hot moments and a HEA. I am curious to read about Henley's story. That's Grady's best friend or he was his best friend until he went off the deep end. But I sort of felt bad for Henley after the confrontation at the end. I look forward to reading more about the secondary characters! 5 stars for me.

An estimating book for all industry

I have used this book since 1986. It has been the cornerstone of my pipe estimating. It is easy to use and in most cases you can narrow a seemingly complicated estimating job down to a few tables. I recommend this book to any estimator charged with providing accurate budgets in industrial construction.

The book addresses carbon steel, stainless steel Heavy wall, large O.D. Staging, Insulation, Pipe Hangers and more.

The Author goes into detail in a clear and concise method about how to structure your estimate and provides a sample estimating sheet.

Even though the estimating sheet is about 30 yrs old. I have set one up in excel to match his format and it works beautifully.

A must book for any pipe estimator.

Estimators Piping Man-hour Manual

This book is still the benchmark manual for accurate man-hour takeoffs in the piping industry and the only improvement will be when it is published in a metric measurement version as well as this Imperial measurement standard. This manual is used in places other than the USA and the rest of the world is Metric.

GREAT BOOK - EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE

This is by far the best book on ICSID I've read....it covers in detail everything you need to know about ICSID arbitration. It contains a summary of UNCTAD' course on Dispute Settlement.

However, for a 220 + page book at $90 USD (actually 110 pages comprise the book and the remaining 110 + are composed by the ICSID convention and by a Model Bilateral Investment Treaty) it is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. But very good nonetheless.

About the Author

Fred Lutgens and Ed Tarbuck have been good friends and colleagues since 1970. Between them, they have more than 57 years of experience teaching geology to undergraduates, and both have been recognized with awards as excellent and inspiring professors. They share a special interest in introducing geology to beginning students and a belief in the value of field experiences for students of all levels.

Lutgens and Tarbuck published their first college text, Earth Science, in 1976. That book, winner of the McGuffy Award from the Text and Academic Authors Association, is now in its fourteenth edition. In 1983, as the first edition of Earth was being prepared, gifted geology illustrator Dennis Tasa joined the author team. Since then the three have collaborated on more than twenty projects. Not only do Tarbuck, Lutgens, and Tasa work well together creatively; they also enjoy spending time in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Tasa’s New Mexico studio.

Tarbuck enjoys downhill skiing in Colorado, fly fishing near his childhood home in Northern Minnesota, and spending time in the Cascades. Lutgens is an avid runner, and when he can make the time, truly enjoys hiking the canyons of the Colorado Plateau. Although Lutgens and Tarbuck think alike on many issues, they don’t agree on everything. Lutgens is devoted to jazz and classical music, whereas Tarbuck prefers pop artists or a good country station.

The structure of each commentary is essentially uniform, with the first part dedicated to the exposition of that provision's object and purpose and to the assessment of its customary status. The second part of each commentary deals with the main issues of interpretation raised by the provision in question. Extensive reference is made to the travaux preparatoires of both Conventions, including the work of the UN International Law Commission and the proceedings of the 1969 and 1986 diplomatic conferences, and to practice both prior to and following the adoption of the Conventions. The 90 + authors who contributed to the book come from twenty different countries and include some of the most respected experts in international law.

About the Author

Olivier Corten teaches public international law at the Universite libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), and director of the Revue belge de droit international/Belgian Review of International Law. He is the author or co-author of four books (Droit d'ingerence ou obligation de reaction ? - Les possibilites d'action visant a assurer le respect des droits de la personne face au principe de non-intervention (Bruylant, Brussels, 1992, et 2nd ed., 1996), L'utilisation du raisonnable par le juge international (Bruylant, Brussels, 1997), Ex-Yougoslavie : droit international, politique et ideologie (Bruylant, Brussels, 1998) and Le droit contre la guerre - L'interdiction du recours a la force en droit international contemporain, Pedone, Paris, 2008) and of more than sixty articles.

Pierre Klein teaches public international law and is Director of the Center of International Law of the Universite libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). He taught as visiting lecturer, then professor, at the Universite catholique de Louvain, the University of Ottawa, McGill University, the Abomey-Calavi University (Benin), the University of Paris XI and the Hague Academy of International Law. Sweet Story

This was a sweet short story, glad I gave it a chance. Though I'm not a fan of KU, it did allow me to check out books that I may have passed on otherwise.

I clicked on this book because I have read other books by Devyn Morgan and enjoyed them. This one was right up there with some of his cutest books.

Not a super long book, so not a lot of room for drama or angst. It's a simple story of a guy who likes living in a small town. Not a lot of people in his dating pool, but he does finally meet another guy who is new to town. Naturally they hit it off BIG TIME. But it's really so sweet how they connect with each other.

I didn't really love the dialogue in this one. I'm a fan of really clever, snarky dialogue and at times this book had just average dialogue. I mean, it wasn't bad. Just not the kind of stuff that really makes me smile (or even giggle). I'll keep looking for more Devyn Morgan books in the future. Most of them, like this one, leave me feeling happy. :)

Well scripted and tightly written. It's a short story so it does move along quickly. Too quickly for reality but fine for a story. The two main protagonists know who they are and go after what they want. It's romantic and sexy sweet.

As clinical trials remain the gold standard research studies for evaluating the effects of a medical intervention, newcomers to the field must have a fundamental understanding of the concepts to tackle real-world issues in all stages of trials. Drawing on their experiences in academia and industry, the authors provide a foundation for understanding the fundamental concepts necessary for working in clinical trials.

About the Author

Dr. Scott Evans teaches clinical trials at Harvard University, where he is the director of the Statistical and Data Management Center for the Antibacterial Resistance Leadership Group, an NIH-funded clinical trials network. He serves on a U.S. FDA Advisory Committee and several data monitoring committees for industry and NIH-sponsored clinical trials. He has been a recipient of the Mosteller Statistician of the Year Award and is a fellow of the American Statistical Association. Dr. Evans is a visiting professor at the Department of Medical Statistics at Osaka University and serves as the executive editor for CHANCE and the editor-in-chief of Statistical Communications in Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Naitee Ting has close to 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and currently works at Boehringer Ingelheim. He has also taught courses on clinical trials in the Department of Statistics at the University of Connecticut, University of Rhode Island, and Department of Biostatistics at Columbia University. He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association.

Western Americana and literary history by the Pulitzer-winning novelist. Now 80, Stegner here reviews his life in part, the West as writers have written about it, its landscape and the ever-changing effect of humanity upon it, and so on. Stegner believes that the West is finally coming into its own as a literary entity distinct from what eastern critics have found in it. Even so, he warns, ``without a more developed and cohesive society than the West, in its short life and against all the handicaps of revolutionary change and dispersion, has been able to grow--and without a native audience for its native arts--there may come a time in a writer's career when the clutch of the imagination will no longer take hold on the materials that are most one's own.'' That sentence points up Stegner's strengths and flaws: It digs into his subject of change and fragility both in landscape and citizenry, but does so in a voice more academic than earthy. Ever in search of the loamy detail, one reads through this collection of recent magazine essays and introductions to Stegner's own and others' books and finds less appeal to the senses than the wise overview, rich in itself but not rich in words. The best essay by far is a sigh-heavy memoir of his mother, ``Letter, Much Too Late,'' written some 50 years after her death, with her breath and heartbeat moved into the reader's own chest. Stegner's friendships with writers such as Walter Van Tilburg Clark and Wendell Berry ring with praise, as do his comments on John Steinbeck, Norman Maclean, and George Stewart. And one feels deeply rewarded by Stegner's wisdom about population shifts, the five or six main types of landscape, and his words about conservation, deadly dams, and the death of the desert. Where the Bluebird Sings to the Lemonade Springs

What makes Westerners different from other Americans? How has western life amplified the way we think, act, and define ourselves across America? If you're intrigued by these questions, Wallace Stegner's Where the Bluebird Sings to the Lemonade Springs has some interesting answers for you. This book of essays takes its title from the song "In the Big Rock Candy Mountains," a ditty that romanticized the West as a garden of Eden fated to bloom in the opportunistic hand of man. But the real story, as Stegner reveals, has been different. And that story is one we need to know today.

Stegner loved the West and saw its true nature. So although he talks about the tragedies of western development, often brought on by politics and real estate boosterism, he also presents the West's triumphs, especially through environmental activism that preserved much western land. The book has three sections. The first recaps Stegner's childhood in the West, which earned him the authority to speak on the region. The second contains essays that explore how western culture developed. His comments on the cowboy's origins are fascinating, and his capsule history of conservation perfect for readers who want that subject summarized.

The final section deals with western literature and its writers, including Jack London, John Steinbeck, Mary Austin, Joan Didion, Walter Clark, Scott Momaday, Linda Hogan, and others. The essay "The Sense of Place" offers wisdoms about western living that resonate today. Stegner said we must stop raiding and running from the earth. We need to be quiet once in the while. And we need to develop a sense of belonging to--not owning--the land. This book is for readers hungry to live along those lines.

To Let Go the Color Green

As 2008 rolled to a close in the early days of December I gripped the steering wheel of a U-Haul truck as it shimmied through the plains on I-80, heading towards Wyoming, Utah, Idaho,and finally Oregon. Virginia and Florida were falling to my stern. Right before I left for our big move I read Stegner's "Angle of Repose." Maybe I left because of "Repose." Once I settled at my destination, Portland, I visited Powell's book store and purchased, "Where the Bluebird Sings to the Lemonade Springs: Living and Writing in the West." I'll make no pretensions about being able to impartially point out this anthology's strengths or weaknesses. My appreciation for Stegner's work is so profound my judgment is dimmed. I'm still in receive mode, and my thoughts float around digesting what I find.

Previously here, one reviewer retained sobriety and concluded that Stegner's Lemonade Springs was insular and xenophobic. I think there's some truth that Stegner's work had a geographic focus, and maybe a moral purpose, but that wasn't because he believed in the infallibility of the West, but rather because he loved it with its faults. Perhaps he felt his generation under-appreciated, or more likely, misunderstood his Western context. I think that the reviewer's analysis may have more weight if she were from the West, but being from Texas, maybe she was surprised by someone from outside the lone star state celebrating their home.

Stegner's work could be considered advocation, but it is also approachable from all corners because he was inspired by the good, and wounded by the bad. His precision in defining the rough, scrubby edges of his cultural landscape reveal more passion than desire for domination. Stegner not only attempted to define, but genuinely wanted to share whatever nuggets he felt he picked up along the way. Maya Angelou admitted to an audience in New York this year that she was a teacher who writes, and this is a sentiment expressed in Stegner's writing, as well as his years as a professor.

The sense of place is a strong backdrop, maybe too much so, but he also calms us with easy prose, allays our fears about the sometimes biographical nature of fiction, convinces us we're not alone in familial pain of a certain type, and provides lingering analogies about his art.

One question about his work for me that this volume didn't answer was his view of God and spirituality. He said he was, "not-so-Christian." At times he admired the Mormons, but not completely. He probably meant for it to be this way, not wanting to drift into the ambiguity of the Transcendentalists. I think that these lingering questions become the most important about his work: Did he believe that Nature, dominating the Western man's experience, was a reflection of something higher, or the end itself? Did he view his existence along an arch that began and ended in the arid desert, or did he see the Divine as he gazed across the Great Divide?
I don't think that it was his nature to give it all away, but he did give us Lemonade Springs: a literary gem, a completely engaging book, and a must-read for those interested in learning about living and writing in the West.

The American west.

"Easterners are constantly being surprised and somehow offended that California's summer hills are gold, not green. We are creatures shaped by our experiences; we like what we know, more than we know what we like. ... Sagebrush is an acquired taste."
Stegner taught writing at the University of Wisconsin and at Harvard, but he had a strong sense of place and his place was the West. He accepted a position at Stanford University where he spent many years, and became, what many consider to be, 'the dean of Western writing' (by which we do not mean that he wrote "Westerns"). In this volume, Stegner sacks the Hollywood myths, and addresses the far more fascinating realities of the West. Featured here is a studied and caring investigation of what lies between the 98th meridian and the Pacific Ocean; of the land's great beauty and vulnerability to human foolishness. The compilation of essays also includes the author's reflections on his own life and work in the West, and examines critically the work of several significant literary "witnesses" of the American West. He reminds the reader of what criticism is: "A critic ... is not a synthesizer but an analyzer. He picks apart, he lifts a few cells onto a slide and puts a coverglass over them... His is a useful function and done well, ... may even give the reader the illusion of understanding both the product and the process. But ... whatever they can analyze has to be dead before it can be dissected ... critical analysis explains everything but the mystery of literary creation."
If you enjoy the works of John Steinbeck or Norman Maclean, or the powerful but fragile beauty of western lands, the essays collected in the Lemonade Springs are highly recommended.
