Learn to make great Homebrew!

My local homebrew club has been lucky enough to have had Marty come and teach us on the off flavors that we sometimes taste in our homebrews, but don’t quite know what that taste is or how it got there. I learned so much at these seminars that I ordered this book. Marty’s easy to understand explanations and brewing insight make this a easy book to read and learn from.
Even though I understand enough to be able to brew my own beer I aspire to brew the best beer I can. I think all serious homebrewers feel the same way as I do and this book can really help you tweak your techniques and understanding of the process to brew better, even if you have already been brewing for awhile.
If you’re new to brewing or even if you’re just curious enough to see if homebrewing appeals to you, this book covers everything, from purchasing equipment to buying the ingredients to bottling and evaluating the finished product..
This book would make a nice addition to any homebrewers library.

Great Refresher

I had not home-brewed for several years due to getting married, moving, and kids. Now I have the desire to get started again and this book was a good overview of the home brewing hobby. It helped my determine the equipment and type of brewing I want to start with - extract brewing with specialty grains or partial mashing. If you are new to home brewing or need a fresher (like I did) this a great place to start. I also appreciate the way that the "Dummies" books are layer out. It is not necessary to read it cover to cover - pick and choose the parts that are most important.

Nicely written and easy to follow whether you are brand new or an old pro. There are several classic texts on home brewing that might be better written and more organized, but the new brewer should beware because those books tend to be out of date. There have been some recent developments, especially in the availability of special liquid yeast strains that can really bump up the quality of your beer. Advanced, high quality brewing equipment is also a fairly recent development for the enthusiast.

Someone else wrote that brewing beer at home is not easy. I disagree somewhat--it is easy to make decent beer if you are careful with sanitation, but making superior beer takes a lot of practice and will require experimentation and a lot of reading and studying. This book can put you on the path and will serve you right up through the all-grain/kegging world.

I have no connection with this guy, but check out CraigTube on Youtube for some really easy brewing instructions for the absolute dummy. Craig can get you started without the disappointment of sour batches.

About the Author

David Taylor is Chief Pharmacist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, Professor of Psychopharmacology at King’s College London, and Pharmacy Lead for the UK Mental Health Research Network. The lead author of all editions of The Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines, Professor Taylor is the author of several other texts and editor of Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology.

Carol Paton is Chief Pharmacist at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, London: she is also joint Head of the Prescribing Observatory for Mental Health and an Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College London.

Shitij Kapur is Professor of Schizophrenia, Imaging and Therapeutics and the Dean and Head of School at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London.

Benchmark book. Belongs with Stahl's prescriber guidelines.

Great book. Complements Stahl's Prescriber's Guide very well. Does have some odd moments, however.

1. Says on page 16 that "clozapine and quetiapine are 'fully' atypical, seemingly having no propensity whatever for EPS." Tell that to all the people I have given akathisia to from quetiapine.

2. Says on page 28 that 10 mg per day of olanzapine is an optimum dose. Not in my experience. But, of course, I am as susceptible to bias as anyone else. Says on page 52 that the effective dose range for olanzapine is 20 to 40 mg per day.

3. Says on page 102 that the signs and symptoms of NMS are fever, diaphoresis, rigidity, confusion, fluctuating LOC, fluctuating blood pressure, tachycardia, elevated CK, leukocytosis, altered liver function tests. The clinical findings are the same as for SS, therefore. The NEJM published a review article about SS. (352:11, March 17, 2005). It said that SS caused mydriasis, increased bowel sounds, increased muscle tone, hyperreflexia and agitation. It said that NMS did not affect the pupils, caused decreased bowel sounds, lead pipe rigidity, decreased reflexes and stupor. I know it is not a book about clinical signs, but still.

Good info, enjoyable read

Meister and Mulcahy's book pulls together the research for readers and presents them with the insights. While the main audience for this book will be corporations and HR professionals, the book is also highly relevant to other employees. Knowing what companies across industries are doing to attract, develop, and retain their employees is a great advantage in understanding and negotiating your own trajectory through a changing workplace.

I particularly liked the section on multiple generations. The conclusions about what the different generations want from their workplace go beyond platitudes and bring together the data from studies and surveys to promote cross-generational understanding. The questions included at the end of the chapter also work to promote reflection and discussion and (as with the rest of the book) challenge readers to take immediate steps to become an activist and advocate for change in their own workplaces. Definitely recommend to those looking for improvement in their workplace -- in HR or otherwise.

Good ally for building a successful HR career

As someone who is new to the HR industry, I am very glad that I picked up this book (based on a colleague's recommendation). The authors break down the intricacies of the past, present, and future of work in a very accessible way. And they include a lot of actionable examples and case studies throughout. A couple of chapters really stood out to me - including the chapters on the power of designing deliberate work spaces, the chapter on data-driven recruiting, and the section on preparing for more Gig Economy workers in the future. I also particularly like how each chapter ends with a set of 'Action Plan' questions to ask yourself, your team, and your organization. I have already begun working through these questions with my team. Based on their positive feedback thus far, I think these questions, and the conversations they spark, will be an excellent tool to help me grow my HR expertise. I would strongly recommend this book to anybody who wants to advance in their career.

Book needs to be tweaked!

Book has lots of errors. Found it much harder to follow than previous editions by same author. Alot of the colors are off, photos are incorrect, and some of the directions are either missing or not explicit enough. I am a straight A student and have been for 2 years taking courses for Computer Applications/Microsoft Office Advanced. I found this book was my least favorite, and hardest to follow.All I can say is I cannot WAIT until this course is done and I can SELL this book.

The gigantic heavy MS Office Book! Which covers only half of MS office....

I didn't think this book was that great. It skipped over some really useful things, like mail merge for word. This book seems geared mostly for complete beginners who want to become MS office specialists, or maybe people who just graduated high school. Also I did not like the layout of the pages, and thought the author's writing style was verbose.

Incompatible with Kindle on Windows 8.1!!!!!!!

This is an (arguably overpriced) text book whose subject is teaching Office 2013 on Windows 8. However it is incompatible with the Kindle application on Windows 8 - On launching the Kindle app on Windows 8, user gets the error "This title is not available for Windows 8". A Great Historical Perception

Many readers may view the English novelists of the turn of last century as sterile and dry. This is a mistake made by the newer generations who have been beguiled by television and modern film making. One gains understanding and perspective of the past through the eyes of various writers and we can begin to see that so many of our problems in this world are of our own making. The social constrictions, the injustices wrought by the well meaning guardians of society, even the arts and sciences can conspire against us. Yet the human condition remains today just as it was well over a hundred years ago.

This novel is the first in a series of writings, three novels and several shorter stories, that make up the Forsyte Saga, a serious reading of the change from Victorian to Edwardian England and beyond. For those who wish to become authors, a serious reading of these works reveals how stories may be told. For the more historical minded, one comes to appreciate the changes in society and how they are wrought. John Galsworthy is a splendid writer and worthy of reading on many different levels.

Amazing

This was an absolutely amazing, incredible book... I couldn't put it down. I finished this book in less than 7 hours and for a thirteen year girl with a small attention span, it's quite surprising:)

Throughout the book, I would randomly freak out with excitement. The story took so many surprising turns! I was shocked and very happy with all of the excitement.

I admit when Holly J Wood first introduced Sawyer, I was all, "forget Luke! I'm on Team Sawyer now". A bit before Luke came home, I realized I definitely did NOT like Sawyer!!!! I loved how the author played with our thoughts and feelings towards certain characters in such a fun way.

Overall this book was thoroughly entertaining.

Amazing sequel

You will not be disappointed in this LDS sequel to Invaluable. In the story Eliza is just starting college and discovering new friends and relationships. I love how the author brings the story to life. Each situation could really happen to a young woman, and the real life situations keep you on the edge of your seat. My daughter says "Forget Mr. Darcy, give me a Luke Matthews."

Best book I've read in a long time

I can't express how much I loved this book. As a college student at BYUI I found it easy to relate to. There were so many plot twists that kept me on my toes. I finished it the day I bought it. It made me laugh, cry, and it made me angry too (but in a good way). It made me fall in love with love all over again. It strengthened my testimony of answers to prayer. I think this is a book that everyone should read, whether they are 80 or 12. I find it especially useful to college students who might face similar trials. Overall, this book is one of the best books I've ever read in my life, and it had brought me so much joy and happiness.

About the Author
Rudi Dallos is Programme Director and Professor in Clinical Psychology on the Plymouth University doctoral training course in clinical psychology. He is also a consultant clinical psychologist and teaches on several family therapy training courses. He has published a number books including 'Researching Psychotherapy and Counselling' (2005, co-written with Arlene Vetere), 'Attachment Narrative Therapy' (2006) and 'Reflective Practice in Psychotherapy and Counselling' (2009, co-edited with Jacqui Stedmon).

Ros Draper is a therapist, teacher and supervisor who has made major contributions to the development of family therapy in Britain over the last thirty years. When Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Tavistock Clinic, London and working at the Institute of Family Therapy, London, she developed her practice in both adult and child psychiatric settings. Ros was chair for the Institute of Family Therapy and Birkbeck College, University of London MSc in a Systemic Approach to Management, Coaching and Consultation, and currently has a private practice in Hampshire and London.

J. David Hunger, Ph.D. (Ohio State University), is Professor of Strategic Management at Iowa State University. He previously taught at George Mason University, the University of Virginia, and Baldwin-Wallace College. His research interests lie in strategic management, corporate governance, and entrepreneurship. He served as Academic Director of the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship at Iowa State University. He worked in brand management at Procter & Gamble Company, as a selling supervisor at Lazarus Department Store, and served as a Captain in U.S. Army Military Intelligence. He has been active as consultant and trainer to business corporations, as well as to state and federal government agencies. He has written numerous articles and cases that have appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, International Journal of Management, Human Resource Management, Journal of Business Strategies, Case Research Journal, Business Case Journal, Handbook of Business Strategy, Journal of Management Case Studies, Annual Advances in Business Cases, Journal of Retail Banking, SAM Advanced Management Journal, and Journal of Management, among others. Dr. Hunger is a member of the Academy of Management, North American Case Research Association, Society for Case Research, North American Management Society, Textbook and Academic Authors Association, and the Strategic Management Society. He is past-President of the North American Case Research Association, Society for Case Research and the Iowa State University Board of Directors. He also served as Vice President of the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE). He has served on the editorial review boards of SAM Advanced Management Journal, Journal of Business Strategies, and Journal of Business Research. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the North American Case Research Association, the Society for Case Research, and the North American Management Society. He is coauthor with Thomas L. Wheelen of Strategic Management and Business Policy and Essentials of Strategic Management plus Concepts in Strategic Management and Business Policy and Cases in Strategic Management and Business Policy, as well as Strategic Management Cases (PIC: Preferred Individualized Cases), and a monograph assessing undergraduate business education in the United States.  The 8th edition of Strategic Management and Business Policy received the McGuffey Award for Excellence and Longevity in 1999 from the Text and Academic Authors Association. Dr. Hunger received the Best Case Award given by the McGraw-Hill Publishing Company and the Society for Case Research in 1991 for outstanding case development. He is listed in various versions of Who’s Who, including Who’s Who in the United Statesand Who’s Who in the World. He was also recognized in 1999 by the Iowa State University College of Business with its Innovation in Teaching Award and was elected a Fellow of the Teaching and Academic Authors Association in 2001.

Very useful, even after graduate school.

This was the book I used in my graduate consulting school in Arthur D. Little which was probably the most read of all my books, up to this time. I still used it as my reference now that I'm back here in Manila as a Financial executive and adopted it as my class textbook in my Strategic Management class.

See your business as an integrated whole

I originally used an older version of this book in 1991 when I took Wheelen's class "Strategic Management and Business Policy". The value of this book is Wheelen's methods of taking all the parts of a business and integrating them into a workable whole--the physical tool to enable such a transformation is the strategic business plan. I was only 20 when I read this book, and I was awestruck.
This was the most valuable book I read in college.

Already within the text

All cases in this book are already within the hardcover text. I wasted my money. The actual cases within this text are great ones though, because they really require the reader to think about several aspects of business.
