Mark Allen Durivage has worked as a practitioner, educator, and consultant. He received an A.A.S in Computer Aided Machining from Owens Community College, a B.A.S in Computer Aided Machining from Siena Heights University, and an M.S. in Quality Management from Eastern Michigan University. Additionally, Durivage served an apprenticeship and is a journeyman mold maker. He is an American Society for Quality (ASQ) Fellow and holds several ASQ certifications including; CRE, CQE, CQA, CHA, CBA, CPGP, and CSSBB. Durivage is an active member of the ASQ Toledo Section, the ASQ Reliability Division, and the ASQ Food, Drug, & Cosmetic Division, holding several Section and Division leadership positions. Durivage and his family currently reside in Lambertville, Michigan. He is the editor of The Certified Pharmaceutical GMP Professional Handbook (ASQ Quality Press, 2014).

Only Neil Patrick Harris could pull off an autobiography using a choose-your-own adventure style!

Given the wild history about NPH's rise into the industry, starting with his role as Doogie Howser all the way to his recent smash success on Broadway, this dashing autobiography hits all the characteristics we know and love of his style: irreverent, sharp, witty, and funny as heck.

The whole book is written in the second person, just like the classic choose-your-own adventure books, and is a truly unique way to get night into the many choices NPH faced, but of course, sprinkled with his humor throughout. The books even throws in random recipes, magic tricks, songs, you know, everything that you might expect in a classic NPH production.

This irreverent book is a must for any NPH fans, as well as anyone who likes an interesting, unique, and humorous autobiography of one of the great living humorists of our times.

One More Reason to Love Neil

First, I am writing this under my husband's amazon account, so pardon the over the top girl-ish giddiness. As many other fans, I have always adored Neil Patrick Harris - first in Doogie, then as Barney Stinson in HIMYM, then as Dr. Horrible which led to me discovering Neil can SING and DANCE which quickly had me devourning alll musical productiona ala Neil - Rent, Sweeney Todd, Company, the endless parade of awards show hosting followed with his amazing performances in Hedwig and finally to this little gem of a read.

As a certified bookwork myself, as soon as I heard NPH wrote an auto-biography, I downloaded the Kindle version immedietely and will probably end up buying the hard cover version as well. Why you ask?? Because it is just THAT good. Imagine what sitting down with Neil Patrick Harris for a long cup of coffee might be like and you begin to understand this book is severely underpriced.

You really do feel as if you are right there with your hero having to navigate through all the many choices he faces and deal with the incredible burden of growing up in the public eye but somehow still managing to stay down to Earth through all the fame, popularity, and pressure. You feel an insane amount of pride and joy as each page reveals to you what you already knew anyway, Neil Patrick Harris is a really nice person who constantly strives to be the ideal celebrity role -model we all believe him to be.

Harris gets personal and opens up in a multitude of ways but nothing is ever dreary or boring. Far from it. He injects his usual humor into every passage (especially at himself) so you are literally laughing and smiling non-stop. Plus admit it, how could you possibly hate a book that so cleverly triggers happy childhood memories of reading classic Choose your own Adventure books. No doubt future celebrity-turned authors will seriously consider copying his format but I doubt it would ever quite ring true the way Neil's book does here.

Personally, I read books similar to Johnny-5 from the 80"s film, "Short Circuit. "Ahhh Input.. Need more.." (For those too young to remember that awesome flick, Johnny 5 is a robot who reads at the speed of the light. ) My husband on the other hand does not. His attention span was severely shortened from his years of poring over college textbooks, so he can rarely read for pleasure without having sweat-drenched flashbacks of having to cram for exams. Despite this, I believe he could actually read this book as he can hop around from section to section , so I plan to let him read my copy... assuming I can stop trying to go back and forth with all the options and actually give it to him...

If you are considering buying this book but are holding back "for some strange reason" , you are encouraged to bit the bullet and buy the book. There are special endearing notes from longtime friends such as Nathan Fillion, and Whoopi Goldberg to tasty recipes and actual magic tricks that really work. Even if you are a bit ADD (like my husband) you can rest assured this book witll keep you engaged and entertained from start to finish.

If you get so immersed in a good book that friends have threatened to hold interventions on you or enroll you in a 12 step reading program; then consider this as falling off the wagon yet again. In fact, I was not intending to read this until after I completed a round of exams but simply could not resist the temptation and ended up pulling an all-nighter to finish reading it. (This is not out of the ordinary as I once read Catching Fire in an entire sitting of a Starbucks coffee shop inside a Barnes & Noble.)

Suffice to say, this book is perfect for anyone no matter what their reading style is.I tip my hat to the inconquerable Mr. Harris. Bravi, Bravi, Bra-visimi. (Imagine that last line being echoed eerily around the room seeming to simultaneously come from everywhere all at once...)

p.s. As an extra amount of over the top girl-ish giddiness, I searched book reviews and am happy for NPH as the response seems to be overwhelmingly favorable. Rest assured even if evil critics had harsh words my love of this book would not be swayed but I still enjoy seeing talented people such as Neil get the respect he is due..

The 'Choose Your Own Adventure' gimmick is fun, but as with the original series

The 'Choose Your Own Adventure' gimmick is fun, but as with the original series, it also wears on you after a bit if you're trying not to miss anything. You CAN just read straight though, because it's vaguely in order, but that's a little irritating at times too. And, sadly, there are relatively few anecdotes from his Doogie Howser or How I Met Your Mother days. Those parts of his life are essentially recapped in 8-10 pages each. While not a bad read, it only gives you a vague sense of what it was actually like for him.

However, it's a very good general portrait of the man himself. If it's the personal stuff you're interested in - his family, his forced coming out, various anecdotes about befriending and hanging out with other celebs - there he delivers, being open about his (not exactly rockstar-esque) experiences with sex and drugs, without ever being particularly salacious. The chapter on what it's like to hang out with Elton John is a delightful read, as are the sections about his now-husband David and their children.
